They identified a bacteria in the soil that can use the hydrogen in the air; the dilute hydrogen is the source of energy. The enzyme they’ve discovered is called “HUC,” and it’s found in bacteria in everyday soil. Once it gets energy from small amounts of hydrogen in the air, it converts it into electricity. Live experiments have shown the enzyme can produce an electric current.
